Winds of Change

After placing 2nd in the past season of Selangor Floorball League, Salibandy!Co has undergone a few changes that will soon boost the strength of the already great team.

With new members that are both diligent and talented, Salibandy!Co has grown to be a sizeable club that will be a force to be reckoned with.

In addition to the increase in numbers, Salibandy!Co has invited Coach David to head the coaching staff that will definitely improve the quality of Salibandy!Co's players. With past experiences as an athlete himself, Coach David will implore his knowledge of tactical and technical abilities to the players.

Moreover, there is a change in the core members in Bandy!Co itself.

With high hopes of great improvement in the squad, Bandy!Co aims to put up a good fight in the upcoming Klang Valley Cup 2015.

In the 1st period, Jeremy (#10) made a huge mistake for the trailing team as he continued playing the game while on the ground forcing Salibandy!Co to play a 4v5 game. However despite the pressure coming from the menacing Subang Rascal, Andrian(#18) managed to pull off a through pass which connected to Alvin's(#28) blade. With a slight dribble, the marksman Alvin shot the ball straight past the keeper and into to a goal to put Salibandy!Co in high hopes of their 4-man team.

Review:

First period started off with a bang with both teams fighting for the ball. Both teams played exceptional floorball. However, Subang Rascals flexed their muscles with Dennis Thulin firing a backhand slapshot that went straight into the top-left hand corner of the goal. Waves after waves of attack proves to be too overwhelming for Salibandy!Co as the repeated mistake of allowing the forwards of Subang Rascals unguarded in the defence zone. 3 more goals were handed to Subang Rascals just because of that. But, Salibandy!Co bit back when Terence(#3) did a spin to pass his markers and hit a fast shot that bee-lined past Azmill, the keeper for Subang Rascals. At the brink of the match, a mistake from Jeremy cost him a 2-minutes penalty, forcing a 4-man team of Salibandy!Co to go against the power line of Subang Rascals. Keeping the pressure up, Subang Rascals did not get complacent but an amazing play by Andrian and Alvin managed to secure a goal for Salibandy!Co to keep them in the game.

Second period seemed to go more in favour for Salibandy!Co. With the same 3 lines as the first period, Salibandy!Co increased their game tempo to keep up with the likes of Subang Rascals. 2 goals were obtained by Salibandy!Co's own Suarez, Daniel Phang(#7) also he played the ball with such skills to find the goal just through the small gaps of the keeper's legs. Both goals, just like a video on repeat. Andrian(#18) also managed to keep up with the hype surrounding him as he managed to handle a ball that found its target in the net.

Third period was the most intense period for both teams. Coming into the period with the score of 5 - 6 in favour for the Rascals, both teams were relentless in their pursuit of victory. Rascals never stopped pushing neither did Salibandy!Co. All hopes were dashed when Mohd Rozaidi made a spin and a drag shot that shot past the defence line into the net. But like a shining beacon, the marksman, Alvin again managed to narrow the score gap after a successful pass(shot?) from Nicholas(#77) reflected of the goal post, into the blade of Alvin's stick, into the goal. As the time passes by, both teams struggled to pull their score ahead. But the final whistle was sounded, and a loss is a loss for Salibandy!Co.

Conclusion:
A giant in the history of Selangor Floorball League was almost taken down by Salibandy!Co. Salibandy!Co upped the game during the second and third period, which would have been a better story if the team played at such tempo from the start of the game. Was it the defence of not guarding the forwards, or the forwards were not doing good enough to get goals? Or team chemistry is to be questioned since many new players are in the team? Nevertheless, something needs to be rectify as two more matches with outstanding teams, Zap and Red Pheonix are going to commence within these two weeks.

3rd period. 3 - 3. Substitute keeper. It's probably stalemate for the game with two very strong teams putting in everything they have. The hall was filled with only shouts from both sides. Hearts beat faster than the ticks of the clock. A whistle blow! A pass from Alvin Lee manages to find the blade of Andrian like a magnet attracting another magnet. A shot straight into the goal. Screams from the bench, from the audience. The smile on everyone's faces. Kel Sern: "Guys, 5 seconds more. Defend". And what seemed to be a long game ended with victory shouts from the blue side.

Review:

First period started off with the strategy of having only 2 lines as not everyone was on time to be set in a line. A fast paced period with both teams fighting for "first blood". Salibandy!Co kept changing their lines to keep everyone in tip top condition against a team that has never left any team not fighting for scores. However, the period ended with a draw of 0 - 0.

3 lines. New strategy for Salibandy!Co. With Song Sing taking charge of the lines, the players began communicating more and teamwork can be seen throughout the entire period. Shots were taken from long and short distance but nothing came close to a goal. 7 minutes into the period, a pass from Jonathan Low(#5) from the side towards the center was collected by Andrian(#18) and if the shot was any harder, it would have broken through the net. 2 minutes later, it was as if someone recorded the first goal and replayed the scene. A pass from Jonathan again finding its mark and Andrian again taking a softer shot with such "macha-ness" to put another goal under his name. But Gang Bintang answered with two goals of their own, ending the period with another draw at 2 -2.

No words can express how intense the third period was. Keeper Skipper Colin Gan(#1) was down and out. Jeremy Yap(#10) was assigned to guard the post as a substitute keeper. Before the start of the period, the team gathered for a pep talk. Unity was further strengthen in Salibandy!Co as a few players began to speak what was in their hearts. Playing with only 8 players in the third period, a strategy of using the more senior and more experienced players to secure a win, Salibandy!Co fought with everything they had. Starting off the period with a misplay, awarding Gang Bintang with a penalty, it seemed like "out of the frying pan into the fire" for the blue team. But an unexpected save by the substitute keeper managed to keep the score even. With that, a fire was fanned as every single one of the field players strived to put the ball into the net. At the 3rd minute, a shot from Alvin Lee(#28) from past half-court was reflected off Andrian and made its way into the goal. But Gang Bintang bared their fangs and bit back at the 9th minute to once again keep victory away from the hands of Salibandy!Co. What seemed longer than the Egyptian civilisation, victory was already slipping off of the hands of Salibandy!Co. At 19:55, the dynamic A&A duo (Alvin and Andrian) again made an impressive play which Amazingly and Awesomely gained cheers from both the team and the spectators. 5 seconds down the clock, as a shot from Gang Bintang was caught by Jeremy, stalling was done and the final whistle sealed the deal for Salibandy!Co, locking in another victory for the blue team.


Conclusion:

Team unity and team communication was ultimately the saviour of this match. Every single player put in a good fight to win balls, block shots, and in the end winning the game. This goes to show that every one of Salibandy!Co has the winning potential and as a team, clutch goals can be made.

With mighty biceps and triceps, this hercules of Salibandy!Co made a stunning shot from a distance behind the half-court line. A slap shot that struck the bottom right corner of GMI White Knights' goal attained the cheers from the blue side. The players on and off court were clearly stunned by the amazing goal.

- Tze Wei
A typical start from a free hit was turned into an amazing play by the rising center of Salibandy!Co. A pass was made along the left side of the court, an with amazing ball control, Tze Wei took the ball and dribble pass his man and went for a straight 1 on 1 confrontation with the goalkeeper. His ball control was already an eye candy, yet the center was not gonna stop there. With a slight flick of his blade, he chipped the ball over the stretched out goalkeeper only to find the ball ending up in the top right corner of the net.

Review:

The first period of the game was a slow start as players from GMI White Knights were not pressuring the players of Salibandy!Co. But slowly, as momentum built up and everyone getting into the heat of the game, the court was chaotic with everyone running around fighting for the ball. Some knew what they were doing, others didn't. Coach Alvin Lee mentioned that it was a cat and dog fight.

Second period was more of a calm and composed game. With this atmosphere, Salibandy!Co began seeing the fruits of being calm and keeping their composure as it resulted in widening the gap between the teams' score. Passes were made and shots were taken.

Third period was a stalemate period. With no goals from either side, the game ended with the score of 7 - 1, victory going into the hands of Salibandy!Co.


Conclusion:

This is the first match for the new and improved Salibandy!Co. With many addition to the team, it may have resulted in a mismatch and miscommunication which led to a messy game for Salibandy!Co. Yet, with more trainings together, hopefully the team will begin to be more united and more like-minded in order to make their mark in SFL 2014

A write up on Salibandy!Co

Recently, the Selangor Floorball Association had a few interviews with the key people of the various clubs competing in the Selangor Floorball League 2014.

 "This year, Salibandy!Co has increased their squad’s capacity by a significant figure, with the inclusion of many new faces with different skill sets." - Selangor Floorball Association

With only 1 day and 4 hours away from our first match (at the time of this writing), the team is looking forward to have their training tonight at 9pm in Kompleks Rakan Muda Puchong. Will this training be enough to put team strategies and organisation into play? Only time will tell.

A new year, a new season, a new team.

2013 was a great season for Salibandy!Co . Despite the fact that the club branched out to form another club that consist mostly of the Tunku Abdul Rahman College (now known as Tunku Abdul Rahman University College) students, the senior members of the team managed to play relentlessly against other clubs such as Subang Rascals (Champions of SFL 2013) and Gang Bintang (1st Runner Up). With Colin Gan (#1) leading the team, Salibandy!Co put up amazing games with other teams of the Selangor Floorball League 2013. Throughout the last few weeks of SFL 2013, playmaker Alvin Lee (#28) was away to further his studies in the UK (praise God for His protection and this opportunity), the team suffered several losses as they began to feel the gap left by Alvin Lee. Although losing two games in a row to Gang Bintang and also Bangi Rusty Blade, the team never gave up and continue to push hard to finally obtain 3rd place in the league.

Entering the new year, Salibandy!Co is blessed to finally get more players. Like baby birds flying back to their nest, the players of TARCbandy rejoin Salibandy!Co . Several previous players of Salibandy!Co also returned. Such the excitement of the increase of players cannot be more welcomed. In addition to the already "happy" Salibandy!Co, the team is greeted with even more good news, as new "signings" were made.

Albeit all this good news and new confidence that surfaced, the core members of Salibandy!Co constantly remind the players that floorball is a game for us to have fun. Victory comes second to having fun. Remembering the core principal of the team, "To be an influencer and a role model", the core members are always on their feet to help newer members to improve. A constant reminder is also put out,

"Finally!!!" Salibandy!Co had won against Gang Bintang. Everyone celebrated with great joy over this victory not because we had any rivalry, but because Gang Bintang is a top top team in Selangor and we've never beaten them since the start of Selangor Floorball League Season 1.

During Season 1 and 2, whenever we played against them, we knew we didn't had much chance of winning as they were much more superior in terms of skills and experience. But for this Season 3, it had been a break through for Salibandy!Co throughout the whole season. We've not only manage to win matches, but also achieve consistency in our performance. Thus, having this victory against one of the best teams in Selangor just shows that Salibandy!Co is now among the top teams too. Though we're not the best yet, there's much much more hard work and training to match the mighty Subang Rascals in future.

Match Summary:

1st Period started with what the players in facebook called it, "a miracle goal" as Ricky Tong scored the openning goal with a long range shot! Salibandy!Co played a 50% defensive game as taught by our coach, Sasi. Everyone worked hard to run back to defend and to man-mark the Bintang players, thus limiting their chances of shooting.

We played with one simple rule: "we attack togehter, we defence together". Our defensive play was superb for the day as we manage to keep a clean sheet for the 1st period, and only letting in 1 goal during the 2nd period. But as for the 3rd period we conceeded 4 goals due to the Bintang players had gone full press and gave their best to try to chase the game back.

Conclusion:

The season is coming to an end with 3 more matches to go. At first, our aim was to secure 3rd placing for the league, and YES! We've secure it already with this victory. With only 1 point behind Gang Bintang now, we'll need to WIN all our remaining 3 matches to have any chance of over-taking them to get 2nd placing.

Throughout our league, we've leart a few lessons that we should not forget. One of the most important lesson is this:

"Never look down at other teams no matter what position they're in, always stay humble and have respect for every players, every teams."

Praise God for giving us strength and joy in playing floorball.

SFL Match Day 14 - Salibandy!Co vs GMI WhiteKnights

Match summary:

GMI WhiteKnights had been improving tremandously, and they even won against Gang Bintang in their previous match. Our last encounter with GMI WhiteKnights early in the season ended in a draw (almost lost the match!) Our mistake at that time was that we under-estimated our opponents.

No more mistakes this round as we fully respect the ability of our opponents, and true enough, we played good floorball. Although GMI scored the first goal, but I think we were already too used to conceeding goals first that we was able to remain calm and just play normal floorball. Slowly by slowly our goals started to flow in later in the match.

Special thanks to Joe and James who answered our emergency call where we originally did not have enough players for that match. Congratz to James for scoring his 1st and 2nd goals for Salibandy!Co. Wish you all the best as you continue to focus in your studies!

Serb was on superb form as well keeping a clean-sheet during the 2nd period!

Points to note:
1) We played with a simple rule where we attacked together as a team and defence together as a team. Great job!

2) In the 2nd period our defenders were finding it hard to pass the ball to the forwards because our forwards were not running into empty space and away from opponents. After the team-talk, I think we did much better on this area.

3) We only started to score more goals during 2nd and 3rd period mainly because we started to pass the ball more often=)

Man-Of-The-Match: Kel Sern - not because he lost his Salming stick after the match, but because of defending awesomely and controling the ball superbly to build-up our attacks from bottom.

SFL Match Day 13 - Salibandy!Co vs Subang Rascals

Date: 21st April 2012

Time: 2pm to 4pm

Before the match started, we saw players such as Sjaiful, Dennis, Kamal, SASI!!!, etc etc... coming into the court. Although such big names are playing against us, but we did not put in to fear, but we still gave them a tough game.

Salibandy!Co played a 50% defense game. We manage to open the scoring as Daniel took advantage of a mistake by Sjaiful right in-front of the goal-post and scoring pass Sue. Subang later on got back an equalizer, but again Salibandy!Co manage to score one more to make the score 2-1. And yet again Subang equalized it, but again Salibandy!Co scored our 3rd goal by Isaac Boo! Although leading by 3-2 at that moment, Subang Rascals proved to be a more experience and skillful team, where they slowly chase back the scores and finally took the lead against us. Serb was on-form today as he made a lot of superb saves!

Our 4th goal at the 3rd period was one of the best as the Rascal's goallie made a superb double safes to deny 2 shots from us, but when the ball falls to Colin, he took the 3rd shot and scored pass Sue!!! Another superb goal was from our coach, doing an air-hook and scoring at the high-end of the goal-post.

Although our coach was our opponent at that time, he was still giving us some guidelines as how to defend and so on.

Our previous match against the Rascals was 13 - 5, and this time our score was 11 - 4. Little improvement, but this shows that in future, we're gonna do much better.

Match analysis:

Most of the time when our defenders have the ball, our only chance of attacking was to hit the ball far up to the opponent's court and hope our forwards are able to get the ball to attack. Once we loss the ball, everyone would fall back to defense position.

Our problem was that we did not have the ability to build-up the attack from defense to forward as our opponents was pressuring us at 80-90%. This would require us to train much harder on ball control, passing and positioning to be able to build-up attacks.

Conclusion: Good game, but could have done more damage to the Rascals if we had pass more and try to control the game.

The match started with 3 early goals from Salibandy!Co contributed by Terence and Daniel in the 1st period. Straight after the 3rd goal, Bangi started their full press and manage to get a goal before the 1st period ended.

The match was much similar for the 2nd and 3rd period where Bangi score a goal, Salibandy!Co would also score one back to maintain a 2 goals lead. Difference is, 2nd and 3rd period was much more challlenging in terms of physical and mentally.

With Bangi pushing 100% press, our defenders did well to absord their pressures and to realise the ball to our forwards for counter-attacks. Our goallie also did well in catching long range shots and making a lot of decent saves.

Match analysis:

In evaluating the 5 goals that Bangi scored. 2 of the goals was due to our own mistakes and could have been prevented.

1) One of the goal scored by Bangi was from a free-hit near our goalpost. Our mistake was we felt that the referee decision was wrong and all our forwards kept on complaining about the wrong decision and did not form a wall and did not man-mark. Well, the opponents took full advantage and played the ball fast to their forward which was un-guard and he scored.

Once a referee makes a decision, he/she most likely won't change their decision. Plus, according to floorball rules, free hits can be taken at anytime, thus, we do not / cannot have time to complain.

2) Another of our mistake was when we had a free hit near opponent's goalpost. Mistake was that our defenders were too up in our opponent's area. When our forwards took the shot and it rebounded on the opponents, they took the ball and manage to out run our defenders and had a one on one with the goallie to score the goal.

For free hits in our halfs, then our defenders would take the free hits. As for free hits near opponent's goal, then forwards will take the hit. At the same time, our defenders should maintain a proper distance to prevent opponent from counter-attack.

Conclusion:

One area that we had done well, not prefect, but good enough was that we had manage to remain calm even when opponents were very physical and even when referees makes a decision, it may not always favour us. So no matter what the referee decides, we still need to play on and complete the game.

Match analysis:

GMI BlackWings had been improving tremendously throughout this league, and true enough we were given a shock by this new team. Conceding 4 goals in the first period, and then going through a fight-back to win the game sounds too familiar to us already. Good thing is we have the never give-up attitude, bad thing is "what if" we're unable to fight-back? Thank God for the strength once again to come-back with a victory.

On the other hand, looking at the young and rising players of Salibandy!Co, you guys really did show improvement from match to match. It's ok if you guys find it difficult to score, it takes time, hard work and lot's of training and match experience before you have that "killer instinct".

I hope everyone remembers what Sasi ask us to do at home? Train yourself on ball dribbling/control and passing, shooting for at least 30 minutes daily. There's no short-cut to success.

1st period:

We started off the match playing 50% as per what we've learnt. Truthfully, everything was alright and our defense looked very solid, forwards and defenders were passing the ball around the court. When opponents got the ball, we went back to 50%, very disciplined. However there were two times that we had the power play advantage and both times we did not convert it into a goal. The reason? We were too afraid and hesitated to attack because we were so used to our 50%. Well, the proper way to do it is to press opponents when we have power play. If you're tired, go and change, let others chase if you can't. Overall very good 1st period as we conserved our energy and kept our cool.

2nd period:

Not long after face off, Mervin broke down the middle and took a shot at goal which entered right above Serb's helmet. Well, we've been conceding quite a lot of long shot goals this season and here's another one. To prevent anymore far shot goals, forwards should block the angles, and shadow the opponents giving them no chance and space to take a shot. Now, it seems like that goal actually made everyone work together more defensively as we did not concede anymore after that. The reason? The forwards were running down to block the shooters and ball carriers, center was in the center, defenders got their men and all in all we really defended like a team :). Our possession and control over the game resulting in us taking the lead and extending it to 5-1 at the end of the 2nd period.

3rd period:

With confidence beaming, we entered the court again for the 3rd period. To be honest, the start of the 3rd period was very sloppy and we allowed Gracebandy!Co to get lots of possession and even have a few shots on target. However we managed to pull ourselves up and play like a team again. Defensively, offensively and possessionively =/.

Pointers:

1). We saw more of Isaac Boo, Kong, Keenan and Alice today as they had more playing time compared to the other games. Must say that they really impressed when the time came. Alice scored a goal, Keenan chased the ball even though he was sick, Boo shot a lot on target, and Kong did a fantastic defensive job.

2).However, there are still lots of blind passes, which is something we need to work on in order to improve.

3). Ball control and ball possession, need to be stronger and be able to protect our ball.

4). Shots! More more more shots!

5). Alvin, Ricky and Terence. You guys did very well today with passing, defending, shooting, etc. No need to say so much bout you guys lah, later Ricky kembang and score own goal in next match.

6).TEAMWORK. Because we worked together as a team, God gave us strength and team spirit brought us victory. Let's continue to keep working TOGETHER alright?

Note:
Once again, we conceeded easy goals in the first and second period, but this time we didn't manage to do our usual comeback at the third period. It's never nice to taste defeat, but this is just a short-term pain to sharpen ourselves.

The sharpening process is always painful but in the end, it makes you a better player. (Provided you learn from this experience and not just go home and emo...)

There's 9 more matches to go, and this 9 matches will be more challenging compare to our previous 9 matches as every team, every player are continuesly improving. So we better train hard ourselves at home and commit in Friday's training under Coach Sasi.

During season 1 people come and ask me why I train so hard? and my answer is because my team is new and I need to train the extra mile to strenghten the team more. I believe this is how many of you who trains hard feels too. I hope that each player won't just train for self-benefit, but let's train for a bigger purpose. Let's train hard together so that Salibandy!Co will be the best! We are already half way there where many players view us as one of the top teams in Selangor. But it will only be confirm at the end of the season of what we really are.
